It is so hard to choose a tent in this price range, as most of them are so similar with not much price difference. The Sunncamp Kansas 8 is new in 2010, an is pretty much a redesign, made to specifications as requested by Outdoor Megastore. Attention to detail is what separates the newer version from the older ones, and this model focuses on creating a warm, dry, and safe inner environment, that is also quite spacious (3.5 metres x 3.0 metres communal area, even with all the inner berths set up - get you tape measure out and see how big that actually is).

The smaller 2 person berths are removable if you don't have eight people, which means for a family of four, this tent offer great space opportunities.On of the exits can be lifted on poles (supplied) which for some reason is always a nice place to relax, and is good for carefully cooking to be served to people outdoors. With a fibreglass frame the tent is is lightweight packed. With a hydrostatic head of 3000mm, you would have to be in the middle of a force ten gale before you would even start to notice any water penetrating the tent. With a tent of this equability a fire retardant material comes a s standard, although this is always nice to know.

As far as we are concerned, this tent is a great all rounder, and for the price you will not get better for you money in terms of quality and durability

Another great family option, the Gelert Olympus 8 tent has a family oreintated 4+4 layout - having said that, this tent is not exclusive to families it's, and it would be equally suitable to a pair of couples who fanc getting away for the weekend (or even just two epole who would like a spacious luxury camping exereince. As with many cntemporary tents, the flysheet is pitched first, and the berths secind, whcih is great if yu have to put your tent up in the rain.

For those who bring their televisions along, there are cable access ponints for caravan hook-ups. (You could evn bring your microwave oven if so inclined - but we suggest sticking to a DVD playernadnto worrying abut your TV signal). The tent is easy to pitchan dcomes with skylights which are something that many tent manufacturesrs neglect to add to the design, and on a starry night, even a rainy one, features like this make all the difference.

A dome tent, this one has the difference of good head height, and if you are not a giant - this frame structure gives you a good feeling of space indoors. It's structure means that it is easy to setup up, and this job is made even easier by colour coded poles. The poles are fibreglass which cuts down on weight and storage space when not in use, and more importantly for transportation and carrying.

This is a great all weather family proposition, as it's got a tension band system for those windy nights, and if there is rain as well, then you wil be suitably protected by a Protex 3000 Polyester flysheet (3000mm hydrostatic head protection) - which is about as good as it gets for keeping the storms at bay. As wwith many 8 man tents, this has a 4+2+2 berth layout, and the 2 person comparrtments can be removed to make more space. As a family tent this is idela, as it is very spacious and wel protected from the element, and it is easliy put up by two people (or one person who enkoys a bit of a challenge).

For a dome tent, this one has quite a bit of headroom, and it's got the common 4 person, 2 x 2 person room split. The weight of flysheet at 20.9kg, and the weight of the poles at 11.25kg bring the tent in at over 30kg, but for an eight person dome tent this isn't at all heavy. The communal area is quite generous, and the material is fire retardant should you decide to cook indoors. For ease of tent erection the poles are colour coded (I know people who do this to their own tents with coloured tape as it definitely helps).

As you would expect, all seams are taped, and the highest standing point in the tent is 2.15 metres which is above average height for most people. It has 5 windows, and the external duratec pole makes putting it up a piece of cake - although we would definitely recommend that this is a two person put up job.
